August brings us the last of the summer months of running and with many upping the distance training for Dublin City Marathon its rare to not see a runner on every road in Dublin. Although many still away on holidays there is still plenty to offer at home. With plenty to choose from this month here are our favourite picks this month.
DLR Bay 10k
For anyone in the market for a challenging 10k course what else would you be doing on an August Bank holiday? Starting and finishing at the seafront this route takes in the sights of Dunlaoghaire all finishers recieve a medal and technical T-shirt. The DLR Bay 10k is a great day out but practise your hill technique before you go.
The Rock and Roll Half Marathon.
For the first time it’s an entire weekend of running. With the 5k distance on Saturday and the 10k and Half marathon on Sunday morning there is something for everyone. The 5k takes place in the Phoenix Park on Saturday with the 10k and Half Marathon both starting at Northwall Quay. Working their way down the Quays alongside the river Liffey. Taking in a few of the top sites along the way such as Christchurch, kilmainham hospital and Gaol. Entering the phoenix park where the 1ok finishes and the Half continues for a lap of the park.
Music at every mile and a Finish line festival all in keeping with the Rock and Roll theme. Each race has a unique medal and if you have completed a Rock and Roll event previously then you are eligible for a 2nd medal on the day.
Frank Duffy 10 Mile
The 3rd run in the race series is the Frank Duffy 10 miler. For many this will be the first time going over the 10k distance, clocking in at 16k the 10 miler is a great bridge for those considering a half marathon for the first time. Running through the phoenix park as most of our runs this month it takes in almost the whole of the park. With the hills in the 2nd half of the race its a fast start with a challenging finish but a great feeling when you cross that finish line.
Great pink run
One of our very favourite events of the Summer and all in aid of a great cause. The Great Pink Run 5k (1 loop) and 10k (2 loops) takes place in the Phoenix Park around the Fury Glen of the park. The course has 1 hill per loop coming out of the glen with a nice fast finish.
It always draws great crowds and the park becomes a sea of pink. You are sure to spot one or two running chicks on this one.
If you know of a run that you would like to have included in our blog for June or any other month please feel free to contact us info@ForgetTheGym.ie
