Marathon Checklist

So are you all packed ?

I know it’s still a few day to go – but you will spend all day tomorrow thinking what you have forgotten if you don’t have a list of what you need to bring with you on race day. I have taken photos of my pre race list of items, so I’m sure I don’t forget anything on race morning. I leave everything out the night before, even including my breakfast, so I know everything is there and I can get dressed, fed and watered while still being half asleep !

(you may notice the suncream here, and the lack of the black binbag and an ancient Garmin. Clearly a few years ago summer marathon!)

Every runner’s list is different, but make a list of all you need to bring, and then you wont spend your time worrying about what you are missing. It is one less thing to be anxious about, one less worry, and something that is so easily done.

So here is what is on my list…

What to Wear

  • Tshirt
  • Sports Bra
  • Underwear
  • Throwaway Jumper
  • Throwaway Gloves
  • Throwaway Hat
  • Socks
  • Runners
  • Race Number (fill details on back)
  • Safety Pins
  • Hair clips / Bobbins

Just in Case

  • Money (20 euro emergency)
  • Plasters / Tape
  • Sunglasses
  • Black Sack for Rain
  • Tissues
  • Phone number of your contacts
  • Foam roller / Stick
  • Zip Lock Bag if wet – for phone and money

  • Phone/Watch (Charged) and  charger
  • Training Log/Notes/Strategy – To keep you calm

  • Gels/Drinks
  • Sweets
  • Jelly Babies
  • Running Belt
  • Breakfast food

Bag for After

  • Full Change of clothes
  • Comfortable Tracksuit/Fleece
  • Change underwear
  • Plasters
  • Loose fitting shoes  (maybe)
  • Phone
  • Snacks
  • Bottle Water

Off you go, make out your personal list tonight….

Ideally everything should match what you wore/ate for your last few long runs. You don’t want any surprises along the route with a chaffing T-shirt or uncomfortable socks. Nothing new for marathon day.
