Marathon Coaching

Are you tempted by the marathon distance? Do you need support and guidance to get you there? At ForgetTheGym, that’s exactly what we love to do. We want everyone to feel the buzz of crossing their first marathon finishline, and help experienced marathon runners improve.

There is such uncertainty about autumn marathons that it is best not to focus right now on the finish line. We can still train for a big day out, even if that big day out ends up being in your local town with just you in the race. As part of our plan we have options of a virtual race, a smaller race to attend or indeed we will create our own local ForgetTheGym marathon. We might not be able to visualize the finish line right now, but we can use our summer wisely and train for a big day out, wherever the finish line might be.

No stranger to long distance herself with more than 45 marathons and ultramarathons completed, Mary has been coaching marathon runners since 2011. Mary’s autumn 2020 Coaching Programme will kick off in June 2020 supporting runners all the way from 10k to the big day in October.

How marathon coaching works

There are three different programmes to cater for all experience levels and each programme runs for 16 weeks:
'First Timers’ For men and women who wish to train for their first marathon (and can now run 10k).
'Improvers ’ For men and women who have completed at least 1 marathon – however slowly. We build on your experience and offer you all the tips and support to help you get more out of your training and improve your marathon performance.

Each 16-week programme includes the following

  • Training plans and schedules
  • Weekly emails and online support
  • Coaching videos and training tips
  • Strength and conditioning online classes
  • Foam Roller online workshop
  • Weekend long run meetups (hopefully later in year)
  • Private Facebook Forum for chats and advice
  • Race Day Support
